New York police detective, Debra Eager, was arrested and charged with 3 counts of felony perjury this week. The charges stem from video evidence from a drug case she testified in that was drastically different than her sworn testimony.
Eager’s lawyer says the inconsistencies in her testimony were “honest mistakes”. When a police officer makes “honest mistakes” while they are testifying in a criminal trial, those “mistakes” can send innocent people to jail and prison. Police officers hold a tremendous amount of power over common citizens and should be held to the highest standard when it comes to telling the truth.
