State of Oregon Tests Sewage Plants for Drugs

Oregon State University found an interesting way to analyze drug usage among the state's population. They tested 96 sewage plants in Oregon for the presence of a variety of illegal drugs. The study was a one day snapshot. The study found:

80% of the cities tested positive for cocaine

40% of the cities tested positive for ecstasy

100% of the cities tested positive for crystal meth

The University intends to conduct a longer study in the future.
