Ex-Mayor Marion Barry Arrested for Stalking

Washington ex-mayor Marion Barry was arrested recently for stalking.

In Florida, you can be arrested for stalking if you willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly follow or harass someone. If you did this, the charge will be misdemeanor stalking punishable for up to a year in jail.

If you also make a legitimate threat with the intent of placing the person in reasonable fear of death or bodily injury, the charge can be elevated to felony Aggravated Stalking. If arrested in Jacksonville for Aggravated Stalking, you are facing up to 5 years in prison and a felony conviction.

University of Florida Graduate Charged with Stalking Olympian Shawn Johnson

A University of Florida graduate, Robert O'Ryan, was arrested and charged with felonious stalking of Shawn Johnson, who is on the show, Dancing with the Stars. O'Ryan was also charged with carrying a loaded gun in his car, which is a misdemeanor charge in California.

If O'Ryan was arrested in Jacksonville, Florida, and was carrying a concealed gun in his car, that would be a third degree felony punishable for up to 5 years in prison. In Florida, there are different levels of stalking.

If he willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly followed or harassed her, that would be a first degree misdemeanor in Jacksonville punishable for up to a year in jail.

If he did what is stated above AND made a credible threat with the intent to place her in reasonable fear of death or injury, he could be arrested for aggravated stalking in Jacksonville and is subject to 5 years in prison.

Florida Police Officer Arrested for Stalking

A Florida police officer was arrested for Stalking, Official Misconduct, and Accessing Computers Without Authority in Gainesville. Adam Treinen is accused of acting like a University of Florida student to gain access to a real student's personal information on the university's computer network. Police say Treinen also used his restricted access to utilize databases only officers can see to conduct searches on the student and his ex-girlfriend. He is on administrative leave until further investigation can be completed.

To be convicted of Misdemeanor Stalking in Florida, the police officer would have to:

Willfully, maliciously, and repeatedly

follow, harass, or cyberstalk this student.

If convicted, the officer could face one year in jail.
