Proposed City Legislation will Urge City Contractors to Hire People with Criminal Records in Jacksonville

There is a proposal in front of the Jacksonville City Council that would urge construction companies that have a contract with the city over $200,000 to hire people with criminal backgrounds in Jacksonville. According to an article at jacksonville.com, the companies effected would be those hired by Jacksonville to conduct clean-up projects and construction projects.

Operation New Hope estimates about 57,000 people come to Jacksonville this year who have been released from Florida jails or prisons. Operation New Hope is a program that assists ex-offenders with finding long-term jobs and also builds homes in Jacksonville’s struggling neighborhoods.
